Good To Know You Have Options

Every now and then you go through a strange patch, during which many or all your familiar reference points are thrown in the air, leaving you feeling disorientated and vaguely uncomfortable. The tendency is to resist it, to try and make it not strange anymore, to cling to something familiar even if it’s outworn, as if strange was something to avoid, something extraordinary. In fact, strange is the natural state and is better welcomed than resisted. Strange is a sign growth is occurring.
While growing might not be what you’re here for, it certainly comprises what happens being here. You either grow or you shrivel. What you’re here for is to enjoy it. To enjoy it you have to keep growing in order to process the all the new incoming data required for survival in an ever-changing world. To keep growing you have to pass through strange patches that seem to threaten to stop your enjoyment. At this point it is your choice whether to welcome and hence enjoy the strangeness even if it feels strange, or to resist it and stop enjoying yourself. Resistance to the flow of what is prevents enjoyment. And the other alternative, which is, in fact, also a form of resistance: distracting yourself from it through a variety of methods (self-pity, fantasy-daydreaming, rage, shopping, sex, drugs, drink, workaholism, or even bogus spirituality, for instance), only allays the strangeness momentarily, which causes it to return amplified.
Our world is undergoing exponentially accelerating transformation, some apparently benign, some apparently malign, hence on an individual level, as you necessarily grow and evolve to accommodate the information arising from external transformation, strangeness is to be expected in increasing measure now.
Strangeness is the new normal and the faster you learn to move comfortably with it, the faster you regain and retain equilibrium.
The mind likes everything to be resolved. That’s its nature. It feels uncomfortable in flux as a result and will cling to anything to speed resolution: fundamentalism, traditionalism, materialism etc. However if you override that tendency and allow yourself to grow, you’re opening yourself to the mystery and though that will inevitably lead you through some damn strange passages at times, the rewards are living your life as an adventure rather than being stultified and stuck in situations you’ve outgrown but are too afraid to leave.
It’s not that one way is necessarily better than the other. It’s simply good to know you have options.

A Thousand Meetings With The Buddha

Yesterday, I proposed/announced instigating a collective experiment, based on the ancient Taoist principles of wu wei, for effortlessly manifesting shifts in external reality simply by visualisation, in this instance encouraging as large and increasingly expanding group of us as possible, once a day for a few seconds, to each visualise, using each our own unique imagery, the entire human population of approximately 6.5 billion people, relaxing at least 9% more and in that state of deepened relaxation, being able to more easily eschew the destructive impulse and so tune into the positive life-force (love) running through us all, and thus informed, miraculously, mysteriously, collectively discover the way through whatever global conundrums lie ahead during this deepening transitional phase of declining resources, rising prices and accompanying unrest.
Today I’d like to suggest shining the focus on how we each perceive the human race, for according to the immutable laws of metaphysics, whatever we focus on grows. Hence if you view your fellow planet-riders as 6.5 billion individual nuisances, that’s how they’ll show up to you and the real-time result will be turgid for all concerned. If, alternatively, you were to view each as a Buddha in disguise – if you were able to look beyond the surface guise to the enlightened Buddha within each, for there is always one, no matter how well obscured that Buddha self in each may be (to them as well as you) – that’s precisely how they’d show up to you, that’s how they’d act towards you and the result would be as you’d expect whenever dealing with a Buddha: sublime.
To do so constitutes a discipline – a warrior’s discipline – as it’s too easy to forget and sink back into the self-deluded, superior, judgemental state and thereby elicit a negative response from the world around you.
The key to this discipline is vigilance and breathing: vigilance to note whenever you’re slipping into negative default mode and exhaling/relaxing to release it, both from the mind and the muscles.
In today’s BAREFOOT JOURNAL, I’m focusing on how, in terms of the collective experiment, to employ this tactic in respect of engendering world peace, or more precisely, a preponderance of peace over violence.

Producing A Future We Can Thrive In

Assuming you’ve been trying out the old Taoist methods of manifesting what you want by focusing and visualising, I’ve been sharing here over the past couple of years or more, have been meeting with some success and are hence open to possibilities, I’m interested in instigating an experiment based on the idea that the synergy produced by a multitude of people broadly focusing and visualising the same outcome could prove to be a crucial factor in bringing about a relatively smooth transition for human society through what is evidently shaping up to be a rocky passage on all fronts over the next few years, as turbulence develops in the ecological, biological, economic, geopolitical and social spheres.

If you look back to times you’ve been faced with apparently insurmountable challenges, conundrums or obstacles, you’ll recall that moment, when by relaxing into the situation and accessing a shred of faith in your ability to unravel whatever knots lay in your path, you somehow, mysteriously managed to find the way through and came out smiling.

My experiment is simple and is confined merely to encouraging as large and increasingly expanding group of us as possible, once a day for a few seconds, to each visualise, using our own imagery, the entire human population of approximately 6.5 billion people, relaxing at least 9% more and in that state of deepened relaxation, being able to more easily eschew the destructive impulse and so tune into the positive life-force (love) running through us all, and thus informed, miraculously, mysteriously, collectively discover the way through whatever global conundrums lay ahead during this deepening transitional phase of declining resources, rising prices and accompanying unrest.

I suggest, momentarily suspending fearful thoughts, no matter how seemingly rational and conjuring up an image, each in our own style, of the human population 9 years or so hence, having successfully negotiated its way through the coming challenges via a predominance of wisdom and love rather than force and fear.

I believe if enough of us do that on a daily basis, it will lend actual force to the unlikely but possible enterprise of producing a future we can thrive in, rather than the alternative.

If the idea of that experiment holds appeal, tune in to the Barefoot Journal each day, where I’ll somehow be finding a way to expand on the theme and detail specific aspects of human, experience, activity and behaviour to focus on, in a similar way to accessing specific acupuncture points to needle during a treatment, that will cause the entire system to right itself, something I did fairly successfully for a living for 20 years, so have a bit of a feel for.

Sustaining Life

Sitting at David’s Café on the corner, where I like to go and sit once a day if time permits, to knock back an Americano, watch the world go by and indulge the fantasy for a moment that I’m living a leisurely Mediterranean style life, it occurs to me that each of us is walking or driving around in our own universe, comprised of our individual perception of reality and of our place in it, defined by our hopes, aspirations, fears, doubts, complexes, daring and so on, often reaching out for confirmation from others through SMS or voice contact on our mobiles, or drowning our ears in the musical ideas of others piped in from our MP3 players and how if you combine approximately 6.5 billion human universes like that and have them happening contemporaneously and co-spatially on one relatively small planet, there’s bound to be the odd collision of wills, the occasional contretemps to add friction to the action and the fact that these are the exception rather than the rule for most of the people in most places, most of the time, constitutes a miracle of epic proportions but because we are generally unaware of the obvious and are in any case bombarded by the media’s insistence on reporting and emphasising the bad news rather than the good, we tend to view the world as a dangerous, tense place, whereas in fact, it’s more peaceful than not.

It’s all in how you choose to view it – through which prism you care to look.

So for today, tonight and through the weekend ahead, if countless numbers of us, say the 20,000 or so from all around the world, who read this page each day, were to visualise that peaceful force growing stronger via the agency of an imaginary healing vapour enveloping the entire planet and touching the inner peaceful, loving Buddha within each individual with its soothing essence, the chances are good that within but a few days, remarkable things will start happening in the world – unexpected incidents of mutual cooperation, breakthroughs in technological progress in respect of future life-sustenance and surprise examples of wise negotiations on the world stage. And if we visualise the world a few years hence, having been subject to the benign effects of this healing vapour all that time, settled into a space of mutual cooperation directed at sustaining life on the planet rather than plundering it for all it’s worth as is evidently happening at the moment, in spite of all talk to the contrary, the chances are good that will happen, in spite of its implausibility.

Alternatively you can either bury your head in the sand or become glum, however, as viewed from David’s Café, the world tends to be far more an enjoyable place to hang out from moment to moment, when you train your mind to see the positive outlook instead.

The Tao Of You

As resources dwindle, competition levels naturally increase. That’s obvious.
It translates itself into all spheres of activity as an a priori thrust in the sub-current of human interaction.
The temptation is to increase your own competitiveness to match it.
However the Taoist approach is to instead operate from a different model altogether, eschewing competitiveness for creativity.
Coming from the creative stance, as opposed to the competitive, you begin by assuming you create your own reality and can create it to include you having everything you need in all aspects of your life, regardless of the competitiveness of others. The creative stance implies accepting the abundance model, as opposed to the scarcity model, according to which you manifest what you want from source – the Tao Of You – and the Tao delivers it to you through the people you’re dealing with or will be dealing with.
According to the abundance model, the more of it you source from source, the more source will generate for everyone, hence precluding the need to envy others’ good fortune and encouraging an attitude of wishing all others well for their good fortune. The more you wish others well, the more wellness you generate in your own life, wellness that will affect all aspects of your world, from the spiritual to the financial.
Hence rather than lose yourself in the stress of competing, transcend that mode altogether by adopting the creative stance and devote energy you’d have otherwise wasted on competing, to creating the reality you really want instead via such tools as visualisation and affirmative thought, a viable short routine of which is explained in today’s BAREFOOT JOURNAL.
Meanwhile, may you create a day and night for yourself, replete with such splendour in all respects, it quite takes your breath away.

Magic Rather Than Brute Force

There’s much talk of manifesting these days, as more and more people are drawn to the notion of working your life through magic rather than brute force and of all the manifesting systems, nothing comes close, in my opinion, to the ancient Taoist model, or wu wei, as they called it, meaning roughly, the art of effortless manifesting.
The system depends entirely on the premise that having made your intention clear to the source of all existence, Tao Of You, which you access within your own body, specifically via the centre of your brain, or cavity of original spirit, the Tao then sends what you want through the people you know or are about to get to know, over the course of time and will produce all the requisite conditions to facilitate it happening without you having to make any effort, other than continuing to fulfil your professional, social and personal obligations to the best of your ability at all times as usual.
Hence it stands to reason, that if you can generate a loving energy and infuse the collective ambience with it, thus making it feel more appealing for the emissaries of the Tao (other people) to be in your immediate orbit, it will expedite the process of manifesting what you want.
In other words, being loving makes you loveable, which draws others to you, along with whatever potential opportunities they have to offer you.
Being loveable and, by extension, loving, starts with being willing to transcend judgemental mode and choosing to see past what you perceive as the personality distortions of the other, to see past what you perceive to be their shortcomings and even to see past whatever wrongs you perceive them to have done you, to the pure essence within them.
Having done so, compassion naturally arises, meaning you are able to put yourself in their shoes, feel their suffering and wish healing and wellness for them in all respects.
Once compassion arises, it’s simply down to intending your innate human warmth to exude from your chest and envelop whomever you find in your orbit.
Radiate love and the universe will love you back by bringing you everything you want in the optimal form to produce your perfect happiness and healthy growth.

May you feel such love and so loved today and tonight, you think your heart might burst.

Supremely Gifted

You’ve got to be strong, keep on keeping on and have faith in yourself now.
You could choose the alternative and loose yourself in self-pity, self-doubt and self-punishment if you’d find that enjoyable but it wouldn’t benefit you as much or help speed you along the path to your perfect happiness as quickly.
So without further ado, exhale sharply three times and expel the very essence of negativity from your person.
In between which, inhale deeply three times and draw into you the very essence of optimism and trust that all good things are coming to you.
Then stop and remind yourself that your perfect happiness does not depend on external conditions, no matter how many good things are coming to you but depends entirely on being willing to celebrate your existence exactly as it is just now, this very moment and the next and the next and so on.
Perfect happiness is the natural state and will be evident whenever you stop doing harm to yourself by indulging in self-pity, self-doubt, self-punishment or self-limiting, stress-producing moves of any kind.
It’s as simple as that. stop doing yourself down in a thousand different insidious ways and allow the natural state of perfect happiness to be yours.
It’s your birthright.
You don’t have to earn it.
You don’t have to work for it.
You merely have to stop working against it.
The more frequently you allow the natural state of perfect happiness to be your default mode, the more life responds by producing external conditions that will best facilitate perfect happiness for you.
Hence, be strong – strong enough to relinquish negativity – keep on keeping on – stay in the game and have absolute faith in your birthright.
May you feel supremely gifted today, tonight and right through the weekend ahead.

Reality is plastic

It responds to the commands you give it.
Reality is an expression of the ineffable consciousness-life-love, generative force of existence, the Tao.
The Tao is receptive to your wishes, because you are an expression of the Tao – you are the Tao and the Tao is you.
The rational mind resists this, because that’s what rational minds do.
Suspend the rational mind momentarily and experiment with existence now.
Give reality the command to regale you with a run of beautiful surprises today and that’s what it will do.
It doesn’t have to make sense. Do it and see what happens, if you feel like.
Relax your body.
Decelerate the tempo of your breath.
Draw the point from which you’re observing the moment back into the centre of your brain (a viable method for which is explained in today’s BAREFOOT JOIRNAL) and with full sincerity of heart, address the Tao Of You, the Great Way and say, ‘Tao Of Me, regale me with a run of beautiful surprises today,’ then draw yourself gently back into the everyday state, forget all about it, carry on as you were and before you go to sleep tonight, look back over the day and you’ll notice you’ve been regaled with a run of beautiful surprises.
May you be regaled with such a run of beautiful surprises, it clean takes your breath away.

Moments Of Spontaneous Enlightenment

MONDAY SPECIAL -

Don’t waste a second feeling sorry for yourself or dismayed should you find yourself experiencing what you consider to be a substandard passage of reality, as this merely takes your personal power away and holds you stuck in the delusion of being a victim of external circumstances. Instead acknowledge that you have manifested things exactly as they are and then be fully willing to trust yourself enough to give yourself the benefit of the doubt for having done so. For no matter how askew things may seem, they are precisely as they’re meant to be in order for you to attain to your perfect happiness. The spiritual force within that moves things around in the external world to produce the desired eventual result for you, works in mysterious ways. Always trust it knows what it’s doing, otherwise you risk driving yourself mad for no reason.
Or drive yourself mad for no reason. It’s entirely your choice.
However if wishing to experience many magical moments of sartori (enlightenment/awakeness), simply keep reminding yourself you’ve manifested things exactly as they are and have done so because you actually like them this way. As soon as you acknowledge you actually like things the way they are even if your rational mind baulks at the notion, everything instantaneously transmutes into something way better, as that’s the way reality works when you engage with it on a magical level like this.
Look around at what you perceive to be your reality (it’s all merely subjective: the way you organise your perceptions and thoughts about them into a shape you recognise as your reality) and for each aspect that comes into view, tell yourself, ‘I have manifested this because I like it.’ Avoid analysing or investigating this rationally. Simply treat it as an experiment. If you do manage to bypass your rational mind long enough to glimpse how you do indeed manifest everything as you perceive it to be, you’ll experience sartori. The more often you do so, especially when beset by doubts, fears, anxiety, stress, guilt, regret or what-have-you, the more empowered you’ll become and hence the less dependent on external distractions to numb the pain of being alive. Instead, you’ll welcome the pain as a sure sign you’re here on the planet and will use it to grow stronger, more self-reliant, more self-contained and more resilient through.
Or maybe you won’t. It’s up to you.
One thing’s certain though.
Telling yourself it’s you who has manifested everything as it is because you like it this way and are therefore free to change it at will, you’ll have a far more enjoyable and merry Monday, than were you to tell yourself you’re a powerless victim of a cruel and capricious world. It’s just a simple matter of shifting your existential stance, a neat technique for affecting which, I go into in today’s BAREFOOT JOURNAL.
May you enjoy the merriest of Mondays, meanwhile, in which you are blessed so many times with moments of spontaneous enlightenment, you lose count.

Let Your Thoughts Drift

Ease off on yourself a moment, stop driving yourself mad about what you want and how or whether you’re going to be able to get it, or if you do get it, whether you’ll still want it and all the rest of that self-punishing enterprise, ease off on your body: stop holding your breath, stop holding onto your muscles and let the whole complex you’ve grown accustomed to thinking of as you sink into itself and relax completely. At the same time, mentally lengthen your spine to keep you upright, imagining someone suspending the top of your head by use of an invisible thread attached to your crown.
Let your thoughts drift and allow a picture to form itself in your imagination of you a short way into the future, enjoying yourself so much you can hardly contain it. see yourself in this state because you’ve miraculously managed to create all the requisite external conditions to facilitate such joy: you’ve somehow jumped over all current problems and are now totally sorted in every respect. You don’t need to know how or why this has happened. All you need to know is it has happened. Don’t rush it. Allow yourself to indulge it for as long as it takes. Enjoy the feeling as if it’s already a fact. Give thanks to the Tao Of You for making it be so as if it has already been made so and in your own time, return to the world of the everyday.
Then smile, clap your hands and carry on as you were.

Lift Your Spirits

What’s so special about a Tuesday, you may ask but when you consider the alternative, No-day, it makes you appreciate how miraculous it is having a day to enjoy yourself on the planet. What’s so enjoyable about being on the planet, you may well ask but when you consider not being on the planet it makes you appreciate how miraculous it is you found this spot to hang out in this vast and endless universe in the first place. You might have manifested yourself somewhere way over the other side of the cosmos and never have organised yourself a broadband connection.

So here you are and in spite of any misgivings you might be holding onto about life, it’s a beautiful thing. Being willing to drop pride and say thankyou even if you can’t prove there’s anyone there to hear you – thankyou for me being here – is one of the most failsafe ways to instantly lift your spirits. It puts you immediately into a state of grace, whence you are easily able to envisage any improvements you fancy making to your reality and then simply by seeing the picture clearly enough and holding onto it with gentle tenacity, find it manifesting before your very eyes without your so much as having to lift a finger or two.

Flow Freely

Whatever you think you’re here for, you’re here to enjoy yourself and to share the unique essential beauty of your soul while you do. True enjoyment occurs through being integrated, being a unified whole, bringing the fullness of yourself to bear on each and every moment, with a relaxed, soft, warm heart to enable your love to flow freely and the love of others to flow freely your way, with a clear awareness that however reality is currently showing up for you, it’s showing up that way because you’re asking it to and that if you want it to show up differently, all you have to do is ask, thus causing you to remain firmly in the present moment, rather than allowing your mind to be lost in delusion, memory, fantasy or panic.

The instant method for self-unification and integration is found by regulating your breathing. Slow your breathing down now. Let your belly swell as you inhale and flatten as you exhale. Let the inhalation and exhalation be of equal duration. Let the breath be silent, smooth and silken.

You’ll notice, after a few breaths in and out, you’ve stopped panicking, stopped thinking about the past or future and are fully present and in command of yourself.

From here you can choose the outcome, quality and mode of whatever occurs today.

For example, choose an outcome of easy resolution to all your current challenges, an outcome of you brimming with joy; choose a smooth, fine, deluxe quality to everything that happens today and tonight; and choose it all to happen easily, effortlessly, enjoyably, swiftly and miraculously for you – and that’s exactly what you’ll get. It works every time, provided hat when you’re choosing it, you’re choosing it with the totality of you brought fully to bear on the moment of choosing. That way the choice is informed with energy and passion, which are equally as important as the ability to visualise whatever it is you want, in terms of the effectiveness of the manifesting process.

Leaving Your Chair

There are times you think you know everything and times you know you know nothing and both are merely states of local-state mind. Deep within, the universal mind, generally unconscious in the everyday state, knows everything that ever was, is or will be, throughout the entirety of existence without exception. The trick to being omniscient (psychic/clairvoyant/pre-cognisant) in the midst of the everyday, is to access that universal mind within.
Simplistically put, this vast reservoir of untapped mind capacity (universal consciousness receiving and processing facility) is spatially located in the rear section of the brain and by focusing attention there, as if shining a torch on it, shining the beam of awareness into the rear part of the brain for a few moments on a daily basis, you’ll start activating it and will begin experiencing spontaneous moments of sartori-like all-knowingness – you’ll find yourself naturally plugging into the universal mind at unexpected junctures in the day and it’s fun – existentially scintillating.
So if you like your personal, internal fun deep and existentially scintillating, relax and gather your awareness in the centre of your brain, equidistant between your ears and from there, train your focus to sweep backwards, as if shining a torch into all nooks and crannies of the rear section of the brain. Wherever the beam of light falls, visualise it activating the brain cells as if waking a sleeping giant. If paying full attention, you’ll notice energy moving through the cells and may even perceive subtle tingling all the way to the rear wall of the skull - and it will feel very pleasant.
You’ll instantly feel a greater depth of consciousness, as if there’s suddenly more of you, more depth to you and will wonder how you could have ever been previously satisfied with only having awareness in the front section of the brain, which is essentially concerned exclusively with survival on the everyday level.
If able to maintain this rearguard awareness when in the midst of conversation with others, you’ll also find yourself more empowered and able to communicate with authenticity and authority, mysteriously causing the other/s to drop into deepened awareness with you.

People used to have to study with masters a few lifetimes to pick up keys like this and all you have to do now is click a mouse a few times and, if willing to put the information to use on a regular basis (these techniques require at least 30 days daily practice for a few moments each time to produce a tangible result), can attain to the state of Buddhahood without even leaving your chair.
May it serve you well and initiate such a profound altered state today and tonight and thenceforth, you feel as if you’ve been reborn.

Hug Yourself Heartily

There’s a rather foolish tendency of the human mind to attempt to control external reality – foolish when you consider the forces at play out there: an infinite universe of eternally, ferociously moving parts, replete with black holes, galaxies, cosmic wind, hurtling asteroids, scuttling cockroaches, teaming viruses, seething insanity in peoples’ minds, stellar explosions, trucks trundling full-pelt along highways, muggers on the byways, planes zooming through the sky and so on and so on – you simply can’t begin to control all that with your mind.

However you can tune into the underlying preatomic force generating (creating) and informing it all in all: the Tao, for want of a better expression and by so doing place yourself in confluence with it, thus magically and mysteriously causing the way it shows up to you and acts upon you to be benignly transformed.

In other words, though you can’t control the outside, you can take command of the internal state and by transforming it, transform the very warp and weft of external reality to suit you better. The ancient Taoists, who purportedly knew a thing or two about the warp and weft of reality, called this enterprise, wu wei, meaning being able to manifest shifts of external conditions using intention alone, without recourse to exertion of any kind – magic, by any other name.

However its success depends ironically on not giving a fig as to the outcome. To successfully affect external transformation of your world using wu wei, you have to step out of the way and take your desires, fears, hopes, self-doubt, complexes and local personality out of the equation with you, not just while engaged in the intention-forming (visualisation) process but also in the aftermath, while you’re hanging around waiting for the results to show.

So say you needed to manifest ten grand in a hurry, without which your life would become untenable, hence requiring a successful result or you don’t stay in the game, you tune into the Tao (a full explanation of how is in today’s BAREFOOT JOURNAL), tell it you want ten grand within a specified number of days, you visualise ten grand in your hand and then you totally let go of it, let go of figuring out how or whence it will come to you and let go of driving yourself crazy about whether the magic will work or not and completely surrender to the mystery.

And without fail, either the ten grand will drop into your account in the nick of time or your reasons for needing it will be attenuated or removed and your life will go on – you’ll be provided for.

But it will only work if you let go of caring whether it works or not.

This requires being able to face and accept the alternative to it working, however dire that appears and be willing to welcome and embrace that eventuality should it arise, with grace and equanimity.

That way you’re in a state of courage, even if quaking in your boots about it and in courage, grace arises. Through grace, miracles occur and you’ll experience the majesty of the universal force, the Tao operating in your life and moving all the pieces into place to facilitate your ongoing success at staying alive and in the game.

Meanwhile, may you feel so alive and in the game today and tonight it’s all you can do not to sneak up from behind, hug yourself heartily and whisper I love you in your ear.

Nothing Can Wobble You Off Balance

I once went to visit Mrs Tweedy, an elderly Russian mystic-guru, who was popular in the 80s. After meditating together, she wanted to know if I had any questions. I asked her whether it matters if you panic at the point of death, whether that would spoil your chances of retaining your spirit or vice versa as you crossed over. She fixed me with her startlingly clear, bright blue eyes and said emphatically in her thick Russian accent, “You must never panic, my dear.”
Panic is insidious. You rarely notice it creeping up on your from deep in the belly till it’s already got hold of you. Often you are gripped by it in a low-level form without realising. The main sign is a tendency to inhibit the exhalation, to subtly or not so subtly hold your breath. This is done unconsciously to fend off the panic but all it does is perpetuate or exacerbate it. As soon as you notice and allow your diaphragm to let go so the breath can flow again, the panic starts subsiding.
Panic releases adrenalin into the system. Adrenalin is addictive. Hence the tendency to panic (and to hold the breath): to fuel the addiction. Acknowledging this, you become aware you have options. You can choose to lessen the panic or you can choose not to panic at all but to breathe and relax instead. You may not take these options but knowing you have them, in itself, starts to undo the compulsiveness.
As with all uncomfortable states, knowing it’s you, yourself, who generates them, as opposed to having them visited on you from without, instantly empowers you. Being empowered you feel able to make choices about which state to generate.
Choosing to relax, breathe and expect the best in any one moment and holding constant to that choice, will gradually engender a fairly stable level of calm no matter what’s occurring (or isn’t occurring) around you, however it will not prevent the wobbles. The trick is not to panic about them when they arise and the trick to that is partly in the breathing and partly in actively, consciously choosing relaxation instead.

WEEKEND DOCBOX - Good To Know You Have Options

Every now and then you go through a strange patch, during which many or all your familiar reference points are thrown in the air, leaving you feeling disorientated and vaguely uncomfortable. The tendency is to resist it, to try and make it not strange anymore, to cling to something familiar even if it’s outworn, as if strange was something to avoid, something extraordinary. In fact, strange is the natural state and is better welcomed than resisted. Strange is a sign growth is occurring.

While growing might not be what you’re here for, it certainly comprises what happens being here. You either grow or you shrivel. What you’re here for is to enjoy it. To enjoy it you have to keep growing in order to process the all the new incoming data required for survival in an ever-changing world. To keep growing you have to pass through strange patches that seem to threaten to stop your enjoyment. At this point it is your choice whether to welcome and hence enjoy the strangeness even if it feels strange, or to resist it and stop enjoying yourself. Resistance to the flow of what is prevents enjoyment. And the other alternative, which is, in fact, also a form of resistance: distracting yourself from it through a variety of methods (self-pity, fantasy-daydreaming, rage, shopping, sex, drugs, drink, workaholism, or even bogus spirituality, for instance), only allays the strangeness momentarily, which causes it to return amplified.

Our world is undergoing exponentially accelerating transformation, some apparently benign, some apparently malign, hence on an individual level, as you necessarily grow and evolve to accommodate the information arising from external transformation, strangeness is to be expected in increasing measure now.

Strangeness is the new normal and the faster you learn to move comfortably with it, the faster you regain and retain equilibrium.

The mind likes everything to be resolved. That’s its nature. It feels uncomfortable in flux as a result and will cling to anything to speed resolution: fundamentalism, traditionalism, materialism etc. However if you override that tendency and allow yourself to grow, you’re opening yourself to the mystery and though that will inevitably lead you through some damn strange passages at times, the rewards are living your life as an adventure rather than being stultified and stuck in situations you’ve outgrown but are too afraid to leave.

It’s not that one way is necessarily better than the other. It’s simply good to know you have options.
